Role Purpose

The role of the BA is to provide business analysis support to business units, functional areas and enterprise projects across Corporate and Investment Bank.


The Business Analyst will be responsible for gathering and understanding the business needs within specific projects and generally in relation to the banking strategies. The BA will then ensure together with key project stakeholders and sponsors, that the requirements are accurately translated and delivered/enabled across the key dimensions of people, process, technology and information. The BA will be working across a range of projects and work-streams which are complex and simple, often simultaneously. The BA will have a solid understanding of Asset Classes for example Fixed Income, Equities, Futures, FX and Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETDs) and how these products are traded in local and international markets. In addition, the BA will be tasked with analyzing business processes, and issues and recommending projects to improve the effectiveness of those processes. This role may require certain levels of best practice research.


The BA will be engaging with senior Asset Management business stakeholders in the full trade lifecycle process of Asset Classes. The BA will be working across business and technology teams to gather requirements for complex trade lifecycle processes and scenarios. While the role is based in Sandton, certain projects may require travel and/or spending a percentage of time at the various branches (e.g. Johannesburg CBD or any other offices).



  • Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the following artifacts as needed: Business Requirements Specifications, Use Cases, Screen, Interface designs, project reports and presentations, operating models, process map, etc. Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Work independently with users, sponsors, and other stakeholders to define concepts and under direction of project managers.
  • Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
  • Strong analytical skills and conceptual level thinking required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts and end users.
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the business and technical vision and analyse trade-offs between usability and performance needs.
  • Take accountability for all business analysis responsibilities across the product/software development lifecycle.
  • Create business and test cases for all Asset Classes.
  • Documenting of as-is and designing to-be processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Min B.Com Degree or appropriate related degree
  • 3-5yrs solid business analysis experience with proven experience
  • Financial or banking experience is preferable,
  • Business Analyst certification/qualification advantageous
  • Six Sigma & Lean certifications advantageous
  • Project Management/coordination experience advantageous
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives would be an advantage
  • Proven track record across the SDLC
  • Processes Engineering Skills
  • Ability to identify root causes and illicit business requirements
  • Understanding business architecture
  • Analytical and Technical understanding
  • Power Point Skills (ability to develop and prepare presentation packs)
  • Solid experience in Agile Methodologies
  • Solid experience in SQL Code analysis
  • Solid experience in Data analytics and Data management principles
  • Solid experience compiling a RACI Matrix (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed)
